After another lavishly financed conference that yielded no progress on curbing greenhouse emissions, many of those most concerned about climate change are close to despair. [Reuters]

Many saw an appeal for action from the Philippine climate commissioner, Naderev M. Sano, as one of the most moving moments of the conference. Days before, an out-of-season typhoon had stuck the southern Philippines, destroying tens of thousands of homes and killing at least 350 people. At least 900 more people are missing. [I.H.T.
